I was randomly assigned an object - a lemon squeezer - to design discursive packaging for that creates a different narration of that object’s function and purpose. The intention of this project was to challenge and redefine how packaging shapes how an user interacts and considers the artifact they are purchasing. Inspired by the decorative form of the lemon squeezer, my ultimate packaging design displays the lemon squeezer as a decorative modern art artifact that you might acquire at a museum gift shop. To convey artistry, I designed an origami-styled packaging that twists open to reveal the lemon squeezer, which is placed in a container that mimics a museum display case. As a discursive design, this project is intended to inspire a conversation in how packaging can transform the narrative of a product; in this case, transforming a lemon squeezer into a piece of art.
